Gutter Replacement Perth

Gutter Replacement Perth

Easy gutter replacement for long-lasting protection.

Gutter replacement is one of those jobs that quietly fails — a slow leak rusts through fascia, water tracks behind the eaves, then the soffit drops in a storm. We replace failing gutters in Colorbond, aluminium, or PVC, with the right profile and gauge for your roof and climate exposure.

What Gutter Replacement Covers

Replacing a gutter run isn’t just hanging a new gutter on the same brackets. We assess the existing fascia condition (often partially rotted under failing gutters), remove the old gutter and brackets, replace damaged fascia sections if needed, fit new brackets to specification (300mm centres minimum in Perth), install the new gutter with correct fall to downpipes, fit downpipe outlets, replace or refit downpipes, and seal all joints and end caps.

Most Perth single-storey homes: 30–60lm of gutter, completed in 1–2 days. Two-storey homes: 60–100lm, 2–4 days. We handle the rubbish removal of the old gutter (and any asbestos eaves discovered during access).

Gutter Materials and Profiles Compared

Three main gutter materials and three common profiles. The right choice depends on your home’s age, your climate exposure (coastal vs inland), and whether you want the gutter to be visible or hidden.

Colorbond steel (most common)

Pros: 25-year colour warranty (BlueScope guarantees), wide colour range matching most roof colours, excellent durability inland.
Cons: ‘Standard’ Colorbond corrodes faster within 1km of the coast — use Colorbond Ultra or stainless steel in coastal suburbs.
Typical cost (installed): $60–$110/lm.

Aluminium

Pros: excellent salt-corrosion resistance — better than standard Colorbond near the coast; lighter weight (easier on older fascia); seamless options available.
Cons: dents easier than Colorbond; fewer colour options; slightly more expensive.
Typical cost (installed): $80–$130/lm.

PVC (uPVC)

Pros: cheapest; doesn’t corrode; lightweight.
Cons: shorter lifespan (10–15 years vs 25+ for Colorbond/aluminium); can become brittle in strong UV; limited colour range.
Typical cost (installed): $50–$80/lm.

Profile choice: quad, half-round, square

Quad: standard Australian profile — most common, best capacity.
Half-round: classic look — suits heritage homes; slightly less capacity.
Square (concealed): sits behind the fascia for a clean modern look — more expensive, harder to clean.

Perth-Specific Gutter Notes

Three Perth conditions worth raising:

  • Coastal corrosion zone. Within 1km of the coast (Cottesloe, Scarborough, North Beach, Trigg, Mosman Park, Sorrento, etc.) standard Colorbond lifespan drops from 25 years to 10–15. Specify Colorbond Ultra (or aluminium) in coastal zones — adds about 15% to material cost, doubles the realistic lifespan.
  • Native tree debris. Jarrah, marri, eucalypt, and lemon-scented gum all drop hard nuts and bark that block standard gutters. Consider gutter guards (separate sub-page) at install time — much cheaper than retrofitting.
  • Asbestos-eaves disturbance. Pre-1987 Perth eaves often contain asbestos cement sheeting. Removing the old gutter sometimes disturbs the eaves edge — we test before stripping and engage a licensed removalist if positive.

Gutter Replacement With Us vs. a Gutter Specialist

A gutter specialist installs gutters. They don’t always identify or rectify the fascia damage that’s been caused by the failing gutter (water-rotted timber, broken bracket fixings), don’t paint the new gutter or any disturbed eaves, don’t patch external paint where access ladders left marks, and don’t coordinate with eaves or fascia work that often needs to happen at the same time.

We project-manage the whole job. If the fascia’s rotted, the carpenter’s on site before the new gutter goes up. If the eaves were already due for paint, we sequence it while the access is still set. If asbestos is found during strip, we have the licensed removalist on call. One quote, one timeline, one point of contact.

A Typical Gutter Replacement Process

A gutter replacement runs in four stages, typically completed in 1–4 days:

  1. Site visit (day 0): measure linear metres, assess fascia condition, identify any asbestos risk, confirm material and profile choice.
  2. Materials order (1–2 weeks): Colorbond gutter is roll-formed to length on order — typically 1 week. Aluminium and stainless can be 2–3 weeks.
  3. Strip-out + rectification (day 1): remove old gutter, expose fascia, replace any damaged fascia sections, prep brackets.
  4. Install (day 1–2): hang new gutter to correct fall, fit downpipe outlets, refit or replace downpipes, seal all joints, paint touch-ups where needed.

Indicative Gutter Replacement Costs

Installed costs per linear metre (gutter + brackets + labour + access):

  • PVC gutter: $50–$80/lm
  • Standard Colorbond: $60–$110/lm
  • Colorbond Ultra (coastal grade): $70–$125/lm
  • Aluminium: $80–$130/lm
  • Stainless steel (extreme coastal): $130–$220/lm

Single-storey Perth home (40lm typical): $2,400–$5,000 in standard Colorbond. Two-storey (80lm): $4,800–$10,000. Add $300–$800 for downpipe replacement; $200–$600 for any fascia rectification; $800–$2,500 for asbestos eaves removal if discovered.

Every linear metre, every fitting, every fixing — in writing before we start. No ‘while we’re up there’ surprises.

Asbestos-aware on older homes

Pre-1987 Perth eaves often contain asbestos. We test before disturbance and engage licensed removalists when needed.

Weather windows planned

We schedule external work for autumn or late spring — not summer heat or winter rain. Less risk of weather-driven re-work.

Is Gutter Replacement Right for You?

Gutter replacement is the right call when:

  • The existing gutters are leaking or rusting through — repair stops working at a certain point and replacement becomes more cost-effective.
  • You’re seeing water damage on internal walls or ceilings below the gutter line — usually the gutter’s failing.
  • You’re prepping for sale — failing gutters are a building-inspection red flag and a buyer objection.
  • You’re getting solar panels installed — replace gutters before the panels go up, not after.

Gutter Replacement FAQs

Inland Perth: standard Colorbond 25+ years; aluminium 30+ years; PVC 12–18 years. Coastal Perth (within 1km of beach): standard Colorbond drops to 10–15 years; Colorbond Ultra 20+ years; aluminium 25+ years. Plan for the climate exposure your suburb actually has.

Colorbond Ultra has a thicker zinc-aluminium coating designed for severe coastal exposure. Standard Colorbond is fine inland but corrodes faster within 1km of the beach. Cost difference is about 15% — worth it in coastal suburbs.

Yes, technically — but if the rest of the run is the same age, it’s usually within 5 years of also failing. Most clients replace all gutters in one job rather than coming back twice.

Old eaves can be damaged, especially if they’re asbestos cement sheeting that’s brittle. We assess at quoting and either work carefully (intact eaves) or factor in eaves replacement (already damaged). Asbestos eaves require a licensed removalist.

$50–$80/lm PVC; $60–$110/lm standard Colorbond; $70–$125/lm Colorbond Ultra; $80–$130/lm aluminium. Single-storey home with 40lm: $2,400–$5,000 in Colorbond.

Yes — refit existing if they’re sound, replace if rusted or wrong size. Downpipes are typically $100–$200 each installed. Most Perth homes have 4–6 downpipes.

We assess at quoting and include indicative fascia rectification in the quote. Surprise damage during work is photographed, costed, and approved with you in writing before fix.

Strongly not recommended. Working at heights without a fall-protection system is illegal under WA WHS regs and dangerous — most serious roof injuries are gutter-related DIY falls. Plus, asbestos eaves disturbance is a real risk in older homes.
